Today's card was completed on WCMD and was created for the Featured Stamper challenge through Splitcoaststampers. For a featured stamper challenge you find a card in the feature stamper's gallery and case it--but you have to make some changes. I cased this card

And made the following changes:
Knotted the bow
Changed the colours
Changed the stamps
Changed the bottom layout
Doubled up the circles

Winter Sleigh Rides.

Have you ever been on a horse drawn sleigh ride? We spent a few winters (when we lived in the cold part of the province) where they held an annual horse sleigh ride. It was amazing! It was roughly -25C below (-13F) and boy did we need some good warm blankets and hot chocolate to warm us up.

One of my favourite things of all time is matching unusual colour combinations where traditional colours are expected. Winter cards are often green, red, navy blue, white...well you get the point.
I decided that the Kim Hughes' Mocha Chica paper would be nicely paired with Aged Sheet Music Scrapblock TM inked in espresso.

You'll notice that I cut a strip from the front and added that strip to the inside of the card and placed the scallop edge to the front.

Unique Beauty

Since I started scrapbooking/stampbooking for some of my CHF assignments I can honestly say I cannot get enough of it. I started scrapbooking shortly after the birth of my son in 2002. I tell you though, I would dream up pages, collect the stuff and never do it. I think I only managed to get through 6 layouts done before I stopped. The main reason was that my kids were born 14 months apart so having two babies--almost like have twins, was enough work for me that I could never get a layout completed. That's why I started card making in 2003--quick and easy and finished in an hour. One of my best friends owned a scrapbooking store so I managed to go to a few crops and retreats to get some layouts done but wouldn't you know it...life was still just as busy. Hardly any scrapbook pages done. Flash forward to this year. My goal is now a minimum of 3 layouts a month. It's doable. It's not overwhelming and I am LOVING IT!

Today's layout was one I just sat and created--no sketch...just time on my hands. I was SO inspired to pull out my butterfly stuff after seeing all the sneak peaks on blog and company websites sharing CHA highlights.

I used a rub-on on the butterfly mirror.

I stamped the edges of my page with the flourish from the Beautiful Set (Rummage Bin collection) by CHF. Also note that I used rub-ons on the photo as well as the glitter die-cut.

LOVE that beauty rub-on as well as that funky ribbon trim!

Hope you are having a terrific Saturday. We get to celebrate the town festival today. They always begin with a megaphone annoucement for the pancake breakfast (that annnoucement is at 7AM and is made by a man who drives up and down all the roads in town) and then we have a parade followed by crafts, games, pie contests, pet contests and booths etc. It should be a lot of fun.

I'll have another scrapbook page for you tomorrow so stay tuned.

{note}worthy sketch.

Our So Sketchy group assignment was perfect! Although I have to admit I had to go looking for my creative memories cutters from way back when to find the right size oval--I forgot I even had those!

So I must tell you I am IN LOVE with all the Making Memories lines these days. Their patterned paper is delicious! How could you not love {note}worthy or passport?...or what about their brand new lines Fa La La and Paperie??? (Making Memories blog)

After Ally assigned us our card sketch I knew instantly that I would use some of my {note}worthy goodies. And since I am a fan of clear stuff I knew I needed to add a clear panel and stamp the flourish from Beautiful (Rummage Bin Collection) by Cornish Heritage Farms.

I have been so anxious to create with this set but it seems I ever have the time. I just LOVE Lesley Langdon's Rummage Bin line. The Shoe Boutique is PERFECT for anyone who loves shoes and I know I am not alone when I say that I am one of those people.

The Shoe Boutique!

It has been a fabulous weekend of sunshine...although the fog and wind outside tell me the weather is turning. I went on a bike ride today with my husband...and I can tell you that as i am typing this i am going to PAY FOR IT in about 12 hours *lol*
I had an opportunity to play with a newly released set from The Rummage Bin called The Shoe Boutique. Seriously, did she make this set for me? I {heart} shoes. It's a good thing we don't live close to a place where I could buy nice shoes or we would be in trouble!!!
One of my close friends is due very soon. I am preparing both boy and girl cards just to be safe...I also decided to make a coordinating gift card box for the card.

The Full Scrapbook Page Reveal...

Have you been by the CHF scrap chat room yet? If so perhaps you have already had a peak at the sketch...if not here it is:

And here is what I did with it...

Alli's scrap tips:
I used various stamped images on the page--they are kept consistent in colour and placement. There is also a balance of colours. Typically you will find at least two of each. Did you notice how I balanced the eyelets on both sides of the page? What about the flowers? I pulled the tab colour from the patterned paper. In fact it was the patterned paper that set the page in motion. I choose the patterned paper based on the colours in my photo.

I placed my chipboard letters on the ink pad (pressing down) and then added a distressed look to them by brushing black ink over top.

Did you see that I placed a rub on on the picture? Did you notice the authentic tab? It's a journaling card. You just pull it up to read the note.
I just {heart} this photo!

CHF Scrap Challenge...

Some of you may have noticed the new section in the CHF forums called Scrap Chat. CHF carries many great stamp lines that work really well for scrapbooking. The Rummage Bin, Kim Hughes line, backgrounders, Mona Lisa Moments, even Thomas Kinkade can work well in layouts. We'd like to encourage scrappers to join in our gallery and forums and share their layouts and ideas.
I have to be honest, this is a stretch for many of the designers on the team BUT it is also a place where we can grow. Come grow with us!!!

Today is the first day of our Layout challenge. We'll be hosting a challenge every other week from here on in--both on our blogs and in the Scrap Chat forum.

Lesley Langdon set us up with a sketch challenge to get started:

Seriously...how fun is that? Here is my take on the sketch. A little different as I had to make some alterations to include some larger photos.

Tip: Don't forget to use your rub ons~they have an expiry date
I have said this before but wanted to share it again. You can see from the white letters below that these ones are almost done!

I was getting really playful with backgrounders and embellishments. I stamped the heart with polka dots again (refer to yesterday's post) but a little more subtly. I stamped a few different stamps along the side. I created the "flourish" by tracing one from the Maya Roads chipboard. I wanted it too coordinate with the patterned paper Ava Artisan Edge Pink by Making Memories so I edged it with pink and dotted it with brown marker then stamped on it using the polka background.

Here is a close up of some stamping fun (double and triple stamping adds dimension)

Baby Smiles...

I often joke around about my friends passing out if they see or hear that I made a scrapbook page. It's like a solar eclipse...very rarely do I scrapbook. The funny thing is I LOVE to finished look and putting it together...the problem is sometimes it can be time consuming. I am happy to report that since I have started using stamps on my scrapbook pages it goes much faster *smiles*. Be sure to check back again on May 3rd for National Scrapbooking Day because I will be posting another *gasp* scrapbook page for you! Yup...you read that right!!!

Today's scrapbook page is of my daughter. This photo was taken close to 4 years ago now. I began by stamping some CHF images (photo op and the large polka dot backgrounder)

You can see from the close ups that I pulled the "round" theme throughout the page by using touches of polka dots on the letters and on the heart.

I also had a lot of fun with my sewing machine...(as you can see I am still learning!) I used my slit punch and circle punch to create the scalloped edges.

I stamped the heart using white ink, poured clear emboss over it and heat set it. Because the heart is plastic I recommend taking your time to heat set it (from a distance) so as not to melt it.
Tip: Adhere the heart using glue dots behind the polka dots!
