CHF Challenge Chicks--Shape Up!

Today's challenge is a shaped card. The challenge was inspired by Kim Hughes, who like many of you know, creates many shaped cards.
I couldn't resist creating a baby card--in the shape of a bunny. If you follow the trends like I do, you know that mixed patterns are very popular right now. I chose to highlight the bunny's eye using a gingham brad. I finished off the bunny with a sweet pink ribbon and attached a safety pin and tag to it.

CHF Challenge Chicks

Well the girls are at it again...a challenge! This week it's a quick card challenge and of course you know I like to make those.
I love cards that are simple and have appeal. I chose to outline the butterflies in the same colour as the paper, then I lined up my stamp-a-ma-jig and stamped in black to add punch. I finished off the card with some lace trim and a cute pin.

Speaking of quick cards, did you know CHF has a gallery entirely dedicated to quick cards? Why you ask? So that when you want to mass produce a card all you need to do is go to the gallery for inspiration :)

Enjoy your Monday.

CHF Adirondack Challenge

One of my favourite techniques is rock n roll. I also love the kissing technique too.
Rock n Roll: stamp image using lightest colour of ink followed by dark ink. I usually roll the edges of my stamp on the dark ink pad to achieve the look below.
Kissing: Stamp a solid image (the "silhouette image" in a set--it's the filled in flat one) on an ink pad and then on a patterned stamp (like a backgrounder). By apply the two stamp together (kissing) the solid image picks up the pattern from the patterned stamp. Add colour variety by inking your patterned stamp in a different colour than your solid stamp.

The leaves below were stamped using Adirondack butterscotch (the light colour) and terra cotta (the dark colour around the edges). I stamped the acorns using latte.

I was SO excited to participate in today's transparent challenge with the CHF Challenge Chicks. Have you seen the fabulous clear sheets from CHF? They are ultra thick and sturdy for all your stamping designs. If you have recently purchased an unmounted stamp set from CHF then you have already seen the sheets I am talking about, if you aren't sure you can check them out HERE...
I decided to use the new Landing Pad (Kim Hughes Collection). I received it less than a week ago and have been anxious to use it in conjunction with Pretty Birds also from the Kim Hughes Collection.

CHF Challenge Chicks

Today's CHF challenge was a designer style challenge. Our assignment was to pick one member of the design team and either case 1) something from their gallery OR 2) their style. One thing was for sure I was NOT going to be responsible for choosing a person to case...have you SEEN the CHF DT work????
I drew my DT case randomly and came up with Julie Campbell. Let me begin by saying I have had the pleasure of getting to know Julie through former DT placements, through CHF and at CHA. Julie is one of the sweetest people I know. We have had numerous phone chats and of course got to exchange hugs at CHA. When I drew Julie's name I knew I was in for it! Julie's style is fresh, sassy and edgy! I LOVE it. I had a good look through her CHF gallery and her blog.

I decided to case both Julie's style and a card. I really liked the paper piecing and simplicity of THIS card. Upon browsing through Julie's gallery, I noticed her use of red, black, and twill (not to mention staples)...and as such I was determined to use these elements in my card today.

CHF Challenge Chicks # 3

Another week of fun ahead for the CHF Challenge Chicks. I was fortunate enough to be able to choose today's challenge called: What I love about Cornish Heritage Farms.

What don't I love about CHF???

I have to tell you that I have the privilege of working with an amazing team of ladies as well as owners Liz and Richard. My design work is made easy when I am able to chat with the design team on a daily basis--they cheer me on, push the boundaries on my design ability and inspire me daily. The best part is they are there through the thick and thin of life and even go as far as calling me or sending me a card when they know I need a hug. Could I ask for anything better than that?

Here are some of the things I {heart} about Cornish Heritage Farms:

1) I {heart} that when there are new stamps available you can find a quick link from the main page. Did you know that there is also a new products button on the index page?

2) I {heart} the gallery. It is FULL of fab examples and I just adore the support from the team and the members. It is always nice to see a new way to use a stamp set/stamp. What I also love is the Keyword Gallery Searches—you can use keywords to search for your favourite products, stamp sets, gallery members etc.

3) I {heart} the variety of art from the cute styles of Kim Hughes and Tom Allen, to the detailed and breathtaking Thomas Kinkade images, to the grunge offered in The Rummage Bin by Lesley Langdon, to the classic stamps in the Mona Lisa Moments collection to the backgrounders! Don't forget there is also Aimee Nugent's modern style, the Elvis Line and Asela's gorgeous images.

4) I {heart} the new Prism Paper Packs The paper packs are grouped by like colour. Do you know how easy it is to custom design your cards using one paper pack??? That takes the guess work away! Since I am a creature of order/coordination, balance (*lol*) I like things to flow together. Check out THIS coordinated card using the Majestic prism pack.

As a paper *nut* who adores colour, I thought it would be appropriate to share a card today that highlights one of my fav paper packs: Razzleberry.

Naturally, you can add any neutral set of cardstock to the Prism paper packs.

This card was inspired by my t-shirt . If I get a chance to upload a photo of it you can see for yourself *smiles* I kept with the clean lines and edgy colours...including that silver group of swirls.

CHF Challenge Chicks #2 Distress Ink

Today's theme was DISTRESS INK!!!! During CHA I had the pleasure of attending Lisa Strahl's Mini Ranger U in the foyer of the Marriott with my some of my CHF teammates. We had a great evening of chit chat and of course learned a few things about using Ranger Distress Inks and blending too *wink*

I own about 10 distress inks but was thrilled to buy the remainder this week because CHF is featuring them as a product spotlight and they are on sale (who can resist a sale???) One of the things I LOVE most about product spotlights is that provides information for you so you can learn more about the product. In addition, CHF also provides you with step by step instructions on how to use the product as well as various examples through the tutorial. Essentially CHF brings you your OWN mini Ranger University right to your computer screen. Gotta love that!

Tidbit: The top paper was a cream colour originally. I used various distress inks and blended them together with the Ink Blending Tool. (a must have! )

Edited to Add:

Oooh! Gorgeous colors and textures! LOVE IT! Can I ask, -- with the blending tool... do you need to have a different pad for each ink... or how does it work?

I used the same pad each time. I just pressed it over some scrap paper until the colour was lighter before I applied a new one. That being said, I have a blending pad for lighter colours and one for darker colours.

Today's Post

...is scheduled to show up at 10AM EST! Make sure you come back to see what the CHF Challenge Chicks have been up to...*wink*

CHF Challenge Chicks #1

Today's theme was FLOCKING!!!! Don't we all love that fluffy stuff? Flocking is the CHF product spotlight until Thursday night and if you missed Kristine’s flocking tutorial
you may want to check that out as well. She provides some excellent tips and ideas for using flock. Even I learned a thing or two.

A while back, Julie Campbell shared an ingenious idea about colouring flock using the copic airbrush system. She went on to say that with the airbrush system, copic markers and white flock you could create ANY colour flock. Well of course I had to give it a whirl.
