2008...what's to come...

As I have mentioned to you previously, this is a time of change for my family and I and we are ready to embrace it. On December 28th we met with the pediatrician again--For those of you who don't know he has been diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder. There is a good news on the horizon, we will have the diagnosis on paper this year (January) which means we can finally move forward.
This could mean a lot of things including a possible move to an area that provides additional services. Since we were expecting to be here another 16 months that really makes me nervous *lol* I am sure it will all be fine.

In addition to that change, I have stepped down from the Paper Pretties design team. I will truly miss Christie Ortman and the Prettie Girls. Make sure you stay tuned to all the fun Christie has in store for you this year. I look forward to meeting the Prettie Girls at CHA as well as keep in touch with them too! *BIG WAVES* I miss you!!!!!

I will also be stepping down from SU! some time in the new year. After working as a demonstrator for 4 years that makes me both happy and sad. Happy because there are new things on the go, sad because I will truly miss my SU! friends as well as the nature of what brought me into this industry in the first place--okay so maybe not completely (I started scrapbooking when my son was born and moved into stamping thereafter).

So what does this mean to you? Well perhaps not too much. I plan to continue designing with all of my stamps on hand, including some of my SU! stamps.
I also plan to change my blog a little, with more predictable daily events--tutorials, tips, challenges etc. I wanted to do that last year but after starting my blog (January 2007) I found it enough just to keep up with daily posts. Now that I have a year under my belt I am feeling more confident to tackle new things too.

There is more on the horizon...I look forward to sharing the excitement with you in the coming months.

All the best to you and your family in 2008.

Because I love to stamp and you do too!

A quick reflection and a card

I hope you have enjoyed some time with friends of family in the past week. We have been fortunate to have family come and join us for our Christmas celebration this week. I can hardly believe that our visit is almost over. Where does the time go?
The kids had a blast opening gifts yesterday...on a few occasions we had to remind them to breathe. This was an interesting year. Last night DH and I reflected on the excitement we saw in the kids. They are starting to get the idea of what to do. Although they thanked everyone for their gifts it really made me realize how we need to reiterate that this season is not about receiving as much as it is for about giving to others (not necessarily gifts) and about celebrating the birth of Christ.
As a parent of five years you'd think this would be easy *lol*. Teaching your children values and morals can be a daunting task. For the longest time I thought perhaps I had missed the boat in the manners department even after modeling please and thank you EVERY day until the day that sweet little voice replied back with please and thank you! Eventually kids show us they do listen and make us proud especially in the presence of other adults. It's the times they throw a tantrum in the grocery store or fit with their sibling that I go back to square one. Parenthood is such a blessing.

Since it is still technically the holiday season, I thought I could getaway with one last holiday themed card.

recipe
paper: paper salon dp, whisper white, cool carribean (SU!)
ink: Brillance Graphite Black (Tsukineko)
stamp set(s): wreathabella (Stamping Bella, Paper Pretties Nov subscription) happy holidays (Stamping Bella, Paper Pretties Nov subscription)
accessories: clip (Making Memories), Copic Markers, Nestabilities (Spellbinders, Ellen Hutson's store), Ribbon (misc grosgrain), Pin, Dimensionals (SU!)

Have a terrific day. Stay tuned for some of my most recent CHF designs.

recipe
paper: paper salon dp, whisper white, cool carribean, certainly celery

12 Days of Reindeer Games Giveaway--Day 9

Well my long awaited laptop cord did not arrive today insert *sad* face!!!!!!! :( Hopefully I can upload my new cards tomorrow.

But fortunately I have about 5 minutes on the family computer to announce the winner of the frame from yesterday.

The random generator winner is #35

Linda SS who said...

I love all stamps as long as they don't smear and the image is one I like. I would have told you wood up until a couple months ago when I tried the acrylic. Now that I'm used to them, I love them as much as the rubber.

Linda, please send me your snail mail so that I can send you your frame!

Today's giveaway is another "valentine" set. It sure is a big HUG in a package. Perfect for all of your valentine's cards.

Since the theme is "love", to enter this giveaway tell me one thing you LOVE about the winter holiday season. Mine is hands down giving to others (volunteering, helping with hampers, making cards and gifts for others!)...I of course love spending time with my family too.
Now just because my "love" of the season is a little more serious, it doesn't mean yours has to be. I know some people love this season because of the snow, because you get a break for work etc...anything goes for this question!

12 Days of Reindeer Games Giveaway--Day 8

I am early today but didn't want to risk the chance I might not be able to post due to the crazy weather. Thank you for all those who left me a comment.

The winner of yesterday's clear stamp set, chosen through the random generator is #6 Rosella

who said...

Hi there. We're staying home. Haven't been home for the holidays in 4 years.
I'd love to have this baby stamp. Don't have any baby ones yet.

Please send me your snail mail so that I can get your stamps in the mail tomorrow!

Now on to today's giveaway!

Sheer frames seem to big a HOT item these days. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to share one with you.

As you know 2007 has seen a shift in stamps...stamps are being increasingly used in scrapbooking as well as interior decorating. In addition, there has been a huge increase in stamping companies as well as the creation of clear stamps. There was a time (once upon a time...) where the thought of clear stamps made me cringe. I was a hardy SU! follower and couldn't imagine the use of clear stamps. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my wood mounted stamps and my red rubber, but I also see the benefit of using clear stamps too. In order to enter today's draw, please answer the following question: Are you an acrylic stamper or a wood mounted stamper? I am sure you could be both too but which one is your preference?

Have a super day!

Because I love to stamp and you do too!

Some RAKS...

It is such a treat to receive RAKs in the mail...even Thank you RAKs! I have receive quite a few recently and plan to share them with you in the next few days. I had these cards uploaded to share already so I can share these ones now.

I am SERIOUSLY counting down the hours until I get my laptop power cord back. It is SOOO hard to be without it. I have obviously forgotten how much my life revolves around the computer (from my online teaching to design work to blogging...and of course e-mailing too!) Sometimes I question whether or not it is healthy to be on the computer so much *lol* especially when it takes me 7 hours to complete each report card not to mention all the other work I have to do for my teaching job.

Okay, before I get to these RAKs, I just wanted to say the weather here is very poor. The wind is howling and the rain is coming down in buckets. I have my fingers crossed that we don't loose power but there is a chance. We have been without power for upwards of 4 days before...just warning you just in case you don't see me posting.

This beautiful card is from Flossie of Flossie's Follies! What a simple, yet elegant card. Thanks so much for the holiday cheer. Be sure to watch your snail mail for something too!

This beauty is from Andrea! I just love all the little details from the sparkles to the gemstones.

Well that is all for now...

12 Days of Reindeer Games Giveaway--Day 7

It's Day 7 already?

We have had another busy day in the Miles household. It's definitely that time of the years--parties, rehearsals, performances, baking, card making, end of the year stuff!
We just got back from the holiday dance recital where both of the kids both performed--one was a reindeer and the other an elf. We were two proud parents in the audience tonight.

Anyhow, down to business. You had a 1 in 11 chance to win. The odds were REALLY good. The random generator has chosen the lucky winner, congrats goes out to #5

I'm all about the chocolate!

Please send me your snail mail so that I can send out your stamp set on Monday.

Today's set is another clear set for babies. So for those of you who missed out the first time, here is your chance to win a baby set. I just LOVE the pin in this one.

To enter to win this one, i'd love to hear whether you are staying home for the holidays or whether you are taking off. I really enjoy the holidays so personally I like to stay home but of course I have friends who avoid the holidays altogether and fly off to some exotic place.

I received some of my new goodies from the new SU! catalogue and have had a fun time playing. The first card I plan to share on Monday is using one of my new FAV sets called Embrace Life. It is BEAUTIFUL. Oh and what about the newest DP and rub-ons!!!! You'll see them all.

12 Days of Reindeer Games Giveaway--Day 6

I spent the night doing what I ALWAYS do on the night before the 15th...I attended the PTI release party. Nichole gave us some sneak peaks ahead of time and I was ready to order right away. Thank goodness the holiday season will make the time go by quickly because waiting for stamps is SOOOO hard *lol*. No actually, I have to say I am really looking forward to this holiday season. We have family arriving this coming week! (hi mum, Drew and grandma!!! *waves*)

The winner of that ADORABLE CHF Mushroom Lane stamp # 9 was chosen via random generator. Congrats goes out to...

Julesiana who said...

I just went to the Ladies' Christmas Tea at Church. It was wonderful. No, I didn't buy anything new--I don't spend money on myself this time of year. Those ladies had to look at the same outfit I have worn for the last couple of years. (I am the pastor's wife) It went great with the necklace that the congregation bought me for Pastor Appreciation Month (Oct).

Please send me your snail mail so that I can send out this stamp to you.

Oh these blog giveaways are SOOOO much fun. I am so delighted that many of you are sticking around to play. Just because you won doesn't mean you can't win again. If the random generator picks your number than I will honour that. Sure glad I don't have to pick it because I would have a hard time going through all the wonderful messages.

We are halfway through the reindeer games giveaways. Today's set is PERFECT for Valentine's Day or an Anniversary card.

So with valentine's day in mind my question is...which one is your favourite: Chocolate or Flowers? As much as I like chocolate, I have to say flowers! This coming valentine's will mark 9 years when my DH (who was my friend and courting me at the time) sent me virtual flowers...he truly won my heart that day. From time to time he brings me REAL flowers and I can't tell you enough how that makes me smile. He is such a wonderful guy!

I should have some new cards to post on Monday. If you don't know already, my computer is temporarily out of commission (so please be patient if you are sending me e-mails because I haven't seen them). I uploaded all of my giveaways ahead of time and have been using my DH's computer to do my daily blog write ups!

12 Days of Reindeer Games Giveaway--Day 1

This is DAY 1 of 12!!!! I hope you will join me in the fun. I hit the 150000 mark about a week ago and was so delighted that you have been following me for so long. Thank you so much for your support and encouragement along the way. I have so many WONDERFUL things to share with you in 2008 and can hardly wait to spill the beans.

It amazes me how many friends I have made through stamping and blogging. In fact, Sherrie Siemens of Card Creme and I will be traveling to CHA together in February and if it weren't for blogging we would never had the chance to get to know each other.

As you know, I am currently away experiencing the TRUE Canadian winter (yes I know it is not winter) but -29C is winter if you ask me!!!

Anyhow, today's giveaway is a clear stamp set...

I will be uploading some cards in the next few days too so keep a look out.

How do you win this set? Leave me a comment and tell me about your weather today! Are you as cold as me? I will be drawing a name using the random generator tomorrow night.

Here's the full reveal...

Thanks for being so patient. I have been stamping up a storm today to meet some of my deadlines and totally lots track of time. I used the AWESOME layout from DAY 3 of the page maps reveal over at Caardvarks--what a source of inspiration.

Here is my card:

recipe
paper: Frosted Pink (Prism), DP from M's (no name attached), Vanilla Cream (Prism)
ink: Colour Chalk (Clearsnap)
stamp set(s): Hugs and Kisses (Kim Hughes Collection, CHF--no yet available)
accessories: Nestabilities (Spellbinders), Ribbon (SU!), dimensional (SU!), Quickie Glue (Sakura), Dazzling Diamonds

Card: 5.25x5.25

Quickie Glue is a MUST have item these days. The pinpoint roller (which looks like a pen tip) just glides over the surface of your paper like a snap and as you can see I added glitter to mine. What a great effect! Make sure you check out Lisa's informative post at CHF (click the Quickie Glue link). It's a product spotlight from Dec 1-15th over at CHF.

Mmmmm Kim Hughes sneak peak!

This is just a quick post. I have a few cards to show you in the next few days but wanted to give you a sneak peak of one of the new Kim Hughes releases....it really only is a sneak peak. I will be back with the full card later in the day *smiles* Is that not the SWEETEST cupcake you have ever seen? What about those sweet x's and hearts???? This set is a MUST for Valentine's Day.

Oh and I have to share...it was a GOOD mail day thanks to Ellen Hutson! My copic spica glitter pens arrived. I haven't coloured with them yet but I will be breaking them in some time today. I have to say Ellen is so wonderful to deal with--great customer service.

I'll be back later today. Have a good one.

What??? No Prettie Girl Challenge Alli???

It's Wednesday and that NORMALLY means I have a Prettie Girl Challenge card to show you but I don't have my card ready *insert shock*. Julie C issued our challenge: monograms. I was so excited because that meant I could use my new stamps from Papertrey Ink except that they still haven't arrived. I ordered them on the 15th of last month I am still awaiting their arrival...I had hoped to have them on Tuesday but no such luck--my mail service this time of the year is painfully slow. Everyone is doing their jobs but because of the holidays and the high dollar things are taking their time to arrive to me.

So today...while I am waiting patiently for my stamps I will show you a card I made during our Stamping In Your Jammies night over at Paper Pretties. Make sure you check the Prettie Girls Christie, Charmaine, Jillian, Joanne, Julie C., Julie M., and Kristine blogs for their monogram creations.

FYI, after this week, the girls and I will be taking a break from our Wednesday challenges until January when we resume again.

recipe
paper: Bazzill Paper from MFT Pretties box (Oct)
ink: Brillance Graphite Black (Tsukineko), Whisper White (SU!), Certainly Celery (SU!)
stamp set(s): By the Seashore (MFT or Paper Pretties)
accessories: Oval Punch (SU!), Hodgepodge (SU!), Nestabilities (Spellbinders), Ribbon (We R Memory Makers), Copic Markers

Only a few more days before I will start sharing more Kim Hughes sneak peaks! She just doesn't quite that girl and I can't tell you how happy that makes me...I LOVE her images. In addition to that I mentioned that I have some fun things planned for my blog. It's almost time to celebrate again...stay tuned.

Love birds

A few weeks ago I participated in the sketch challenge over at SCS. I always enjoy those challenges, particularly when I have never tried the layout before.

This is what I came up with...

recipe
paper:
ooh La La Tres Jolie Collection (My Mind's Eye), Vanilla Cream (Prism)
ink:
Brillance Graphite Black (Tsukineko)
stamp set(s): cute curls, pretty birds (Kim Hughes Collection, CHF)
accessories:
Glossy Accents (Ranger), Heart Brad (Making Memories), Dazzling Diamonds (SU!), Quickie Glue Pen, Slit Punch (SU!), Copic Markers

For some reason my CUTE heart shaped brad looks like a black blob on my card *lol*
I hope you are having a super day. I have some fun reindeer games coming up on my blog very soon...lots of prizes too so stay tuned.

16 New Backgrounds for your viewing pleasure!

The CHF backgrounder stamps are drool worthy...I have tons on my wishlist but must pace myself. One thing that makes these backgrounds more affordable for me is purchasing them unmounted. Although, if you do purchase them this way you will want to have the appropriate acrylic block to mount your stamp.

My wishlist includes:
Dotted Diamonds
Grid Paper
Lined Paper
Geometric Flowers
Geometric Flowers II
Open Circle
Large Polka Dots ...just to name a few *lol*

Did you order any? If so which ones? I want to see what others are buying too *smiles*
