Holiday Spirit Sentiments 5

Hi Friends!!! It's Day 5 already...where does the time go?  Is it me or does each release time go by faster?  Well today is a treat.  I have stamped many of the sentiments on the focal background of my card today. They just screamed to be used in this manner!!

Today's project is a fun project for everyone.  I started with a fresh colour combo and it became my inspiration for the entire project.  Last year my kids made these really neat stocking ornaments at our local museum last December where we learned about a pioneer Christmas.  We got to see all the toys and decorations that were made for the family in the late 1800s and early 1900s.  It was that experience that inspired me to create the felt gift certificate ornament...of course there weren't gift cards in the early days (maybe IOUs...) but I figured I would put a 2000s twist on it.

I wanted to show you that you can either have the GC showing or you can hide it...

Holiday Spirit Sentiments 4

Hello everyone!!  Here we are on day 4 already.  It seems to me I was just typing the introductory post for Holiday Spirit Sentiments.  If I blink too many times it might turn into the October release overnight LOL.

Some years back I used to teach stamping classes to a group of women and whoever hosted the event received a gift from me.  I love to give tea lights because 1) I love candles 2) you can always use candles 3)  they were easy to decorate and 4)  I could always coordinate them with my thank you cards.  Several weeks before my release I often take a look at what supplies I have on hand and determine most of my projects.  I was digging through one of my drawers and I can across these tea light candles and bags and suddenly I remembered making these sweet hostess gifts.  If you are like me, the holiday season fills up with events and parties and I am often scrambling to put together a small gift as a token of my appreciation....and then I got thinking...this would make a perfect hostess gift for those throwing the holiday season events/parties!  It's small, inexpensive and says thank you too!  One of my favourite things about this ensemble is the sentiment I stamped on the edge of the tea light candle "warming up the season".  It couldn't be more perfect!

INSTRUCTIONS
CARD
  1. Create card base and cardstock layers.
  2. Stamp circle images on cardstock.  Stamp sentiment on mini piece of cardstock.

  2. Stamp cardstock and place in bag with candles.

Holiday Spirit Sentiments Day 2

Welcome to day 2 of the countdown!  Sometimes I think I get just as excited (maybe even more LOL) during release time.  It just makes me giddy. Thank you all for your sweet comments.  I am glad that you were pleased with yesterday's project.  I have another fun one today too including a few "how to" photos.

In keeping with yesterday's theme I created a project that can be easily reproduced by not only you but also by children!  As a teacher, I spent many years coming up with fun projects for kids...well I still do!  Last year I created a paper bag book with my son, this year we are creating decorative star ornaments (or 3-d snow stars as my son likes to call them)!  I am sure they have a technical name because I remember creating one when I was young too but since my son loves "building" I thought this would be a perfect project for him and a wonderful gift for some of the key people who work with him each month (occupational therapist, education assistant, neurodevelopmentalist, pediatrician, etc).  Having spent some time on the PTI forums I know there are quite a few teachers (let alone parents) among the regular posters so I hope this can be a fun project for the students, for the family or for the paper crafter in all of us!

Decorative Star Ornament and coordinating card.

Close up of decorative star ornament.

Weave pattern Enjoy the Holidays card.

THE HOW TO:

Weave your 1/4 inch strips of paper.  You will need 12 all together but 6 for each star as you will be repeating these steps twice.I used glue dots to hold the strips in place. (And yes I kept the edges frayed!)

Fold 4 corners (your center strips will be used to attach the two separate stars together).  I used double sided sticky tape to adhere the corners together.

Lay both of your stars one on top of the other and then attach together using the center strips from each of the stars (you'll loop the corners together).

Cut the strip and adhere.

INSTRUCTIONS
CARD
  1. Weave patterned paper.
  2. Attach to card base.  Round corner.
  3. Cut paper strip and scalloped edge.  Stamp sentiment.
  4. Attach snowflake die, button and thread.
  5. Adhere remaining layers.
DECORATIVE STAR ORNAMENT
  1. Cut 12 strips of 1/4 patterned paper.
  2. Weave 6 strips and attach with glue dots. (see photo above)
  3. Attach ends. (see photo above)
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 again so you now have two.
  5. Lay one star over the other and rotate slightly.  Attach ends.
  6. Adhere buttons with thread.
  7. Adhere die cut with sentiment to the centre.

Introducing Holiday Spirit Sentiments

Welcome to the official start to the September countdown!! I am always thrilled to be able to give you some sneak peaks before the unveiling of a new stamp set.  The winter holiday season is quickly approaching.  I know some of you are probably saying "Hey Alli, slow down now..." but as you are well aware there is Halloween and Christmas paraphernalia on the shelves at the big box stores already!!  I always feel like it gets earlier and earlier.  Well I don't know about you but I actually start my Christmas cards in January so new winter themed stamps sets in September are just perfect for me :)

The newest release from the Urban Design collection is called  Holiday Spirit Sentiments.  It is a collection of warm and cozy sentiments you can use for all of your holiday creations.  I can hardly wait to show you some of mine.  It will be available through Papertrey Ink on Sept 15th, 2010.

I am happy to share a quick and easy combination you can give your neighbour, postal worker, co-worker or friend!  I love giving candles to people and even better I love decoration candles and creating a matching card to coordinate with it.

I used a technique called one sheet wonder where I did some repeat stamping on a single sheet of paper using two different colours of ink.  Next I cut various strips and pieces and crafted them into two separate projects.  I am really pleased with how they turned out.
