Congratulations Ali!! Your blog is amazing and I read it daily. My favorite summer memories are going camping with my whole family. There were about 15 of us in total and what a party we have!! We still go sometimes although the family has grown with quite a few of us married, etc. We just had lots of fun!

Hi Alli! Love reading your blog, but I don't get to post much bc I'm usually holding a baby :) Hmmm, summer memory...I'm gonna have to say when my brother and I were about 8-10 and my parents took us to a campground with our pop-up camper and the place where we stayed had a huge drive-in movie size screen and we watched "Born Free". Sooo fun!

Congrats on your blog! One of my favorite summer memories is going camping on the Island with a friend in elemtary school. We were out in the fishing boat and ended up in the middle of a pack of killer whales! While they all panicked and looked for a bigger boat to get into, we got to see some amazing whales splashing around! Totalling awesome to be so close!

OMG, WOW, what great blog candy, love that stamp set and paper and I do not have either one. Favorite Summer Memory, well I was born in the summer, no, I don't remember that far back but I do remember a birthday party when I was young and my friends and family were there, it was a great day. Don't remember the gifts just the people and the fun of the day.

I volunteered at a summer camp for a few years. Every morning, the cook would set out a huge, black cauldron of steaming hot oatmeal. Never before and never since have I tasted oatmeal so GOOD! One of these days, I will have to go back...

ONe of my favorite summer memories is the summer my DH and I went to Cancun. My brother and SIL joined us. It was the first time I had vacationed with my brother as an adult. We had a blast and would love to go again, perhaps sometime after he returns from Iraq. :)

wow! That is some great blog candy. I don't have any of those goodies. My favorite summer memory is from this summer. My daughter is finally at an age where she recognizes her grandpa. We've been making several visits to his house and she just loves her time with her "pampa". I love watching them together. It's my husband's father; so it's bitter sweet for me. I wish my parents didn't live 1400 mi away from us.

Congrats on hitting 100K - but who better than you? One wonderful memory was our trip to Montana last summer. We went to a dude ranch and it was so much more than what I thought a dude ranch would be. I was sorry to leave - even after 10 days! Family all together and lots of rest and relaxation! Good times!

Lorie said...

Congrats on the hits! This is my first time at your blog and I'll be back for sure!

I've said it before and I'll say it again my favorite memories of summer all have to do with the quiet, relaxing, time we have with our family and friends. Whether it is picnicking, sitting on the porch, or playing a game...those are the times I cherish the most!

Anonymous said...

Congrats on all the hits!! I love your blog and have you on my google reader so I don't miss any updates.

When I was younger I showed horses ALL summer long. I really miss that now. My parents were right there every weekend and now that I am a parent it means alot to me. I know they had other things to do, although I guess I didn't realize it then.

I can't specify which moment has been my favourite, but I am valuing the time I am spending with my children since I know that it won't be long before all 3 of them will be living their own lives, perhaps far away from home, when we can't share the simple things in life anymore.

Its hard to choose one summer memory because we lived aboard a lot when I was a kid and thus traveled to visit my grandparents (who lived in two different countries). But I think my favorite was when I lived temporairly in Bosnia to do research on youth and the cafe culture. I had been there loads of times before because my father used to work and live there but now I came on my own (my father had moved back home).

Its such a great country and I think the time I spent there was one of the best in my life. I experienced so much generoisty & made lots of new friends in adtion to those I already had. I came just before tourist season and even stood out enough for the bartenders of one of the many cafes I went too to give me a going away present. Awesome.

It was the last summer I was still healthy so that makes it extra special. I really managed to prove something that summer, both to myself and to my professors. All in all it was just an amazing time and I will cheerish those memories forever. So grateful I was able to experience it.

Wow! 100,000 hits! I had to look twice to make sure I was reading it right. Congrats! And how sweet of you to give candy (really good candy at that).

I have many favorite summer memories, but the one I think of often is spending the summers of my childhood at my Aunt & Uncle's farm in NE Missouri. Me and my five siblings would spend 2-3 weeks with my six cousins; riding tractors, swimming in the pond, bathing in the back yard with water warmed by the sun! Those were the days :)

Anonymous said...

Wow...

Favorite summer memory

Remembering that summer went on forever, that the days were long. Sitting at the corner store sipping a 25 Cent Fanta (organge soda). Learning to float - while swimming. Picnics with my family. Watching a thunder/lightening storm. Climbing trees. Fireflies.

Congratulations on the 100,000 hits. I love your blog and check it out every day. My favorite summer memories are when my sons were young and out of school we spent the days on the river bank, fishing and swimming. We would also spend a lot of time riding in the mountains and going hiking. They are grown now and they tell everyone that they have the best Mom in the world. She always had time to play with them. Now I have a new grandson and I will take time to play with him so he can brag about his Mimi being the best in the world. Family has always come first and always will.

My favorite summer memories are those of childhood - such carefree, happy days! Playing outside till after dark, games of tag (I'm the oldest of 5), catching fireflies - all the while being watched by our parents & grandparents who sat outside on the front porch. I think they laughed as much as we did! Brings back such memories I'm getting teary-eyed! Thanks for bringing it all back with your question!

Congratulations, Ali. I get so excited when I saw your blog highlighted in my feeds list! You are so talented. My fav. summer memory is when I was 7 or 8 and was spending a vacation at Fort Hancock with my family and cousins. My favorite summer memory is a camping trip DH and I made before we had our girls. We snuck away and didn't tell anyone where we were going and just camped right beside a lake all weekend. The fact that it rained all weekend made it even better. We just snuggled up in the tent and played cards all weekend and talked. Such a good memory!

Congrats Ali! I read your blog almost daily...work interferes with my hobbies! LOL

My favorite summer memories always revolve around my dad' family--6 brothers and sisters and most had 3 kids. We would all go to my grandparents cabin on KY Lake every weekend during the summer--from Memphis. Our cabin was made from a Memphis street car! Pretty cool, huh? My family brought it to the lake and built a huge enclosed front porch on it and on the opposite side was a bath and 3 bedrooms. The front of the street car was turned into the kitchen and the back of the bus (with back seat still intact) was the living room area. We would throw pallets everywhere and sleep. The days were spent in the water, swimming, skiing and fishing. All of us kids built human pyramids and were the best of friends. I always said that I had more than 1 set of parents and more than 1 brother and sister...I had more than 19 1st cousins who were like brothers and sisters and 6 sets of 'other' parents. We were such a tight-knit family! My own children just don't know what 'real' living is all about. Those were truly the 'glory' days!

When you have kids, favorite summer memories are hard to choose. I guess my one favorite was going camping in June (before school let out) with my two boys and my husband. We were almost the only ones at the campground so we had the beach to ourselves. The boys were in the FREEZING COLD water and loved every minute of it. Daddy bought them an air mattress and they climbed on and jumped in so many times. I just got to sit on the beach and watch them.

Forever ago-I went up north in Michigan with my best bud Peggy and her entire family-there were 13 kids at that time besides me. One of my favourite summer memories is Homemade ice cream.
My Mom and my brother were born on the same day in July. We always had a big birthday party to celebrate the double day! One of they things we always had for the celebration was homemade ice cream. my mom would make the base and my dad would use the oldfashioned ice cream churn to make the ice cream. It seemed like it took hours and hours and lots of turns of the handle. We all took turns!
But the reward was worth it...creamy delicious cold ice cream!

Hi Alli! Congratulations on reaching 10K hits! Not surprising though - your blog is fabulous! My favourite summer memory? Every summer, my fiance and I drive to Stratford, Ontario (about an hour from home) just to buy mint chocolates from Rheo Thompson. We sit on the bench outside, have a few and head back home. I know that it doesn't sound all that exciting, but their chocolate is unbelievable and it's just so nice to slow things down and enjoy some uninterupted time together. It's a tradition!

Congrats on making it to 10,000 hits. A favorite memory from this summer happened two weekends ago. I brought some cs I was folding for one sheet boxes to the end of our dock at the lake to work on. Two loons came and swam nearby for twenty minutes or so, just preening and enjoying the sunny morning with me. It was great! Jenny

As for favorite summer memories, every summer my mom packed my sister and I u and sent us to my Grandmother's house at the beach. On weekends my Grandfather (now passed) would take us out on the boat clamming. Personally I hate being on the water, but being with him, digging clams up with my toes and helping him winch the boat in made me feel so special. They are certainly life long memories! Thank you for encouraging me to remember such wonderful things

While we didn't take a vacation this year, a few summers ago we took the kids to the Great Wolf Lodge. The kids had soooo much fun and we also went on a Safari Ride. I had an enormous Bison head in my window as I was driving. He left a big giant stream of slobber just for the memories. Ahhh, memories! That was the best though, I'll never forget it. Thanks for the opportunity to win some AWESOME goodies. Congrats on 100K.

100K!!! Congrats! My favorite summer memory is the first time I visited Colorado Springs with my mom back in 1998. We used to go to Garden of the Gods park, a wonderful place with huge red rock formations at the base of the Rocky Mountains, and watch the thunderstorms roll down the mountains each afternoon. It was an awesome sight, and really made me fall in love with the area...which is why I moved to Colorado after graduating from college a few years later. Since I met my husband within a few months of moving there, I guess it was all worth it!! :-)

My favorite summer memory is my first summer in Canada, visiting my fiance on "his turf" and going through Jasper and seeing the spectacular mountains. These are the mountains he grew up in and along the path he told me about certain trees or rocks connected to stories of his youth. I felt i knew him so much better and my love grew leaps that day. We saw a moose in the road on the way home that was eating along the side of the highway and all the cars had stopped to watch. He was bigger than our car! It was amazing.

We went as a family to Fort Edmonton Park (done in old authentic 1700's through 1920's style). My 2yo daughter had so many "firsts". Ride on a steam train, she chased chickens down the street, gathered eggs, rode a street car, a carousel - it was a day filled with smiles and wonderful family!

My favourite summer memory is of a summer about 25 years ago. We used to spend summers at our family cottage. This particular summer, my little brother was 4 years old and we could not, for the life of us, keep clothes on that child. Mom would dress him each morning and then he would run down to the picnic table, climb on top, shed all his clothing and run!
Every photo taken of him that summer he was wearing nothing but a hat and a smile.
