Finding Inspiration...

Many of you asked me about where I find inspiration! Well today I am going to show you just what I am talking about.

I mentioned this before BUT this Chocolat magazine did me in! I am telling you that book is FULL of inspiration. I have been eyeing the front cover of the May/June edition and I am not sure why but I HAD to create something using the colour scheme, texture and mishmash of patterns. I must tell you, I have a hard time with orange at the best of times. I think it is because of my strawberry blonde hair...I was told LONG ago to avoid orange at all costs. I digress...so anyways, orange...well I found a way to incorporate it.

Chocolat May/June 2007 Edition

I was drawn to the designs on the bottom. The chair, the throw pillow, the vase and the satin material to the right of the lady!

And after all that exposure THIS is what I came up with:

Chocolat Cover Inspired Card Recipe

Paper: Cool Carribean, Whisper White, Old Olive, Basic Black, Petal & Paisleys DP
Ink: Basic Black, Chocolate Chip, Pumpkin Pie, VersaMark
Stamp Set(s): Flower Filled, Painted Posies, Green Thumb (Papertrey Ink)
Accessories: Ruby Red Stampin' Write Marker, Gel Pen, Scalloped Scissors, Misc Satin Ribbon, Flock, Clear Embossing Powder, Heat and Stick Powder, Heat Tool, Pearl Ex, Ticket Corner Punch, Corner Rounder, Stipple Brush, Brad, 1/16th Hole Punch

You'll notice I pulled the "chair" in the background using the Green Thumb set by Papertrey Ink by creating a black and white pattern. I recreated the vase using the Flower Filled set by SU! (the vase was inked with Pumpkin Pie and thumped with Ruby Red and then stamped with VersaMark and embossed with clear embossing powder). I was able to capture the "satin material" using this ribbon. I also used the Petal & Paisleys DP from SU! to match the "pillow". As a final touch, I simulated the texture on the vase (on the magazine) and added texture and colour to the flowers using flock and pearl ex and texture to the card base using the Cuttlebug and the Traffic Jam Embossing Folder by Provo Craft.

Yes, I know, A LOT of details. This card may not be for everybody but you know my style *wink*

I will be giving this card to my mum for Mother's Day! We scoured this magazine together last week and she has an edgy little studio that just SCREAMS this card. I can't wait for her to see it in person. As she reads my blog she is now getting a sneak peak (love you mum see you soon!)

As promised here is the inspiration piece for the bella card I featured a few days ago:

and here is the card again so you can inspect closely!

That's all for today! I hope you enjoyed "seeing" my inspiration. I look forward to seeing yours too.

Because I love to stamp and you do too!
Alli

The card is beautiful!! Love the blog. By the way....I was born a strawberry blond too, and orange/coral have always been "my colors". I still love them to this day and feel "alive" when I wear them. They are happy colors to me!

I am so very impressed! I always find inspiration in things, but alas, can never capture the spirit of the original piece the way I want to. But you have done it BEAUTIFULLY!!!! I love that card!!!!!

The card is absolutely beautiful! It's nice to see the magazine for your inspiration and how the card really matches the detail on the cover. I also see how the Bella dress matches the other page. Thank you for sharing and helping us get an eye to see possibilities in magazine pages.

Thanks for sharing your inspiration and how you find it. I need to give that a try myself with magazine's (start looking at them in a different way). It helps to see how others find inspiration. I like the black portion on this card a lot. Ida
