A Giveaway!

I just wanted to share that 3 of my cards were featured in the most recent issue of Card Creations, Quick & Easy Vol. 2 (Dec 2008)“Birthday Wish” p. 29, “Hello Dear Friend” p. 49, and “Teacher” p. 74. In fact, this volume is packed with online designers whose names you are sure to recognize. There really is nothing more exciting than picking up a magazine with your own work in it. For those of you who have never submitted--because you don't have the nerve, because you are afraid of rejection, because you don't think it is good enough, because you aren't crafty enough I encourage you to GO FOR IT! To be honest, I am always surprised at what cards they do take. Also, submit more than one--submit lots! I have had rejections too. But look at that as constructive criticism and learn from the experience.

Here is my fav of the 3 cards accepted for this issue...

Ok, and now for the giveaway--a free copy of Card Creations Quick & East Vol. 2! All you have to do is leave me a comment telling me if you have ever submitted a project (anything) for a publication call. If not, are you planning to? What's stopping you??

I will draw a name using Random.org and post the winner on Sunday morning.

Have a super day.

Alli

I've never submitted anything for publication...I am much better at borrowing ideas than coming up with them!

Nope. Never submitted for publication. I have entered for contests at my local stamp camps and have won. It's so fun! Maybe one day I'll submit some for publication. That would just be amazing. Thanks for offering the candy Alli!

I've never done it - I'm terrible at photographing things - blurry, dark, you name it, that's what my pictures end up looking like! If they want the real deal, it would mean getting something in the MAIL and I'm terrible with that also!

I have done 2 submissions and made it to the top 10 on one but not published. I'm still trying!

I submit when I can - when I find time to create 'spare' stuff. It's funny - I submitted some work a couple of months ago, and included a 'thank you for being interested in my work' card. Well, the project hasn't been accepted, but the thank you card has been! I agree with you Alli - you never know what they will be interested in.

I've submitted a long time ago, but I got slack and stopped. Maybe I should give it another try... :)

Yes I have submitted cards and have gotten several published. I always send about 15 at a time since like you said you never know which ones they will pick. I have a stack right now getting ready to go to Just Cards. I love the card you did! Sherri

congratulations to you!!! I have never considered submitting anything for publication because I think that my cards are too simple and just not sophisticated enough!! But perhaps your little book will give me some inspiration!!!! ;-)

Many congrats!!! That is so fabulous :D I have not submitted anything in a long time, but I have been published twice. My first was a special publication called "Creative Cardmaking for Scrapbookers" and the other was "Take Ten".

Always believe in yourself and you just need to keep trying!!!

I've never submitted anything. One reason is not knowing where to look for the card calls--how do you know what they want. I guess I need to start subscribing or getting some mags regularly. It is on my list of goals that would be great to accomplish but I actually need to try :-)

I've never submitted anything...yet! That will be in my 2009 plans. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work!! Happy New Years!!

I have never submitted anything to a magazine and most likely never will as my stamping and creative abilities are poor. I do well by CASING, but to come up with a design like you do, is impossible for me. Congrats to you and thanks for the chance to win this magazine.

I have never submitted for publication because I don't know how. I even emailed one of the magazines I subscribe to in order to get the submission details and dates, but haven't heard back from them. I would *love* to submit some cards, but don't know where to start.

I submitted a layout for publication once many years ago. I often think that I should, but never seem to do it. But, maybe this year I will try to submit something again, it can't hurt!
Love your blog and your creations!

Hi Alli!

Yes, I have submitted something for publication and it got accepted!! I'm waiting to find out if some other cards I submitted to another publication have been accepted. I was soo excited when I found out!

Yes, I have and have been very blessed to have had them published, including a few 2-4 layouts. I have stopped sending into magazines and think I want to start doing it again. Thanks for reminding me the joy in doing this. Blessigns

I echo your comments on submitting items for publication. You just never know -- probably 15 or more years ago I was published in several craft magazines and books and even was flown to Chicago twice as a "craft expert" for book photo shoots. What a fun time. Now I've recently begun submitting again -- we'll see how it goes. (By the way, if my number's picked choose another -- I already bought that issue ;) ) Thanks for all the inspiration!

It's been a long time since I have submitted anything, it just never really occurs to me anymore. I don't like writing up the instructions, so I guess that's what holds me back mostly.

I have never submitted anything. My husband tells me I should. In 2007, my cardmaking was kind of put on hold to take car of family members who were ill. My son is suffers from epilepsy and sjogren's syndrome and we are just now getting started in some investigation into surgery. So I don't know how much I will get done. I do enjoy looking at the magazines and make cards when I can. One day I hope things will get back to "normal".

Have a great day and thanks for a chance to win.

Congratulations to you! I have submitted one layout, but that's it. I felt it was good enough to submit, but I haven't felt that way about other things. Maybe I'll have to take your advice this year.
Thanks for sharing.

No, I haven't submitted anything before. I'm not sure I will as I don't have the confidence to do it. And since I don't, I don't feel it's worth the time and effort. But I do love looking through the publications and seeing those names I recognize...like yours! I LOVE your style so much. Congratulations!

Congrats on having 3 cards in one publication. In the 16 years I have been stamping, I have never submitted to a publication. Not sure why I haven't tried. Thanks for the opportunity to see your creations in print.

I've never submitted anything for publication...quite honestly, I rarely have time to make more than what I *need* at the moment. I'd sure like to start submitting some things for publication, but don't know if it'll ever happen. I have 3 little ones (oldest is 5-1/2) and another due in April, so I've got my hands pretty full right now as it is.

Anonymous said...

Hey Alli congrats x 3!!!! It is so funny you are asking this question because a few days ago when we were at the book store and I was looking through the card magazines I thought I need to submit some things. Then I actually said it out loud to my dh and dd and they both said aaahhh yeah...lol. So this is one of my goals for 2009. I am not sure what has kept me from doing it sooner but that does not really matter.
Hope this year brings many more blessings your way and TFS.

Alli how awesome to be published! Not one but three of them. I just love this card for a friend. It's so cheery and bright. Ok I thought you were writing about ME!! I have tried to be published, but I know one day I will just say do it and maybe I'll see mine in a magazine too. Thanks so much for a chance at the inspiring magazine. OH if I win will you send the magazine before you send it? Happy New Year!

I have not submitted anything for publication or anything else. You could say I am so critical of my work when I do it on my own so I like borrowing ideas. I have been told by people how much they like what I do but the critical of myself comes in to play. You might say because my father was an artist (a very good one!) and he was so critical of his work that I feel it spilled over to me.

xiumaiyuki said...

I'm too chicken to submit anything. Also, the thought of them throwing it away if it's not picked saddens me.

Congrats on being published again! Woohoo isn't it such a thrill? I've had cards in Take Ten a few times. I'm just putting the finishing touches on a set of cards I'm sending to Stampers Sampler tomorrow morning ... I sure hope to get published this year. Seems I got so many rejections in 2008 and was feeling deflated but finally got up the nerve to try again. It's a new day, new year and one should never give up. Thanks for a chance to win - count me in.

Hi Alli, congrats on being published! Thanks for a chance to win this magazine.

I submitted a couple of cards a few years ago to Rubber Stamper magazine. One was published (a photo Christmas card). That was a huge thrill. I keep meaning to submit, but I forget. I should try again.

Wow, great card.

I never submitted anything for publishing. I just don't think my creations are good enough to be published. And I don't have the money to buy many things for scrapping. And I have the idea that if i really want to make great things, I have to buy expensive (and most of the times those stuff are just gorgeous)I just have to buy stuff that I can't afford.

Congrats on the publications of more of your cards! I'm not surprised at all! It's fun to read the magazine and recognize all the names. I have not submitted something myself. . .why not? Cause I'm usually CASEing someone else. Maybe someday. When I have more free time.

Thanks for the shot to win!

Congrats on your cards being published! I have never submitted anything because I always look around and like other people's creations better than my own. I also end up casing other people's projects, so I'd never feel comfortable submitting that work.

I've never submitted... for the simple reason that I'm afraid of rejection and fear that I'm not good enough.
Lame, but true.

I have not submitted anything for publication, mostly because I have seen the fantastic projects they do publish and don't think I can compete with that. Maybe one day, with much more practice. I did once submit a double page spread to the contest at the Scrapbook Expo, but was not a winner.

Hi Alli,

Love the card as always! I do have to be honest and say that I have submitted in spurts - several times in the past year, but I just can't seem to get there. I also have to admit that its been disappointing for me not to have at least one thing recognized, but life goes on and I do plan to submit again this year and I will post that up as one of my crafting goals.

I have actually been published once! I haven't done it again because of the others that didn't get published! It is a goal of mine this year to try again.

I've never submitted for publication. The closest I've come to garnering public opinion other than from my friends and relatives, has been donating stamped items/sets for benefit auctions. It's been a great learning experience and I'm really excited and thrilled now when I'm requested to supply specific items because of the feedback the organizations have gotten and requests for more of my work.

Congratulations on being published! I never submited a card for publication because I live in Romania and most American magazines don't accept submissions from other countries.
