Wise Owl (5)

I am SO excited about this month's release and sneak peak countdown too! Wise Owl was the very first set that I designed for PTI. It is the very set that got me started on this wonderful journey. I have always been fond of owls and was inspired to create this set from the wonderful memories of reading Owls in the Family by Farley Mowat in grade 4. I remember having to draw owls for a book cover assignment and then having to write my own beginning to the story. Funny how my opportunity (or beginning) with PTI started with owl drawings. This was certainly a full circle moment in my life.

I began today's card by creating cutting 8 by 3.25 using Spring Moss paper. I stamped the front using the petal stamp in white followed by Spring Moss. You'll notice that after I stamped it in white I offset the stamp again and stamped over using Spring Moss ink to create a 3-d look (you'll recognize that from some of my previous work).



Then (*giggles*--can you tell I am excited?) I stamped my owl outline and choose some of my favourite "owl bits" to personalize my owl--just the way I like him. I can hardly wait for you to see them all!! After I finished stamping "hootie" I coloured his beak using copic markers, stamped a new belly using patterned paper from the write out collection by We R Memory Makers and adhered it and then cut him out. Then I adhered Doodlebug paper frills along the edge of my card using double sided sticky tape.



Next I coloured the owl's eyes using a souffle pen which gives it a nice white finish (see card below) and stamped my sentiment on a scrap piece of Spring Moss cardstock.



Since I had the sentiment "a wise owl once told me..." I decided to stamp the following in the inside of the card:



Here is a close up of the owl's eyes once they dried. You'll also note that I added some ribbon to the card--a touch of ribbon always gives a card a polished look.
