Thank you all for such warm wishes regarding my anniversary. It was too bad DH had to work! It turned out to be an eventful day with quite a scare. My 5 year old son has had fevers up and down for the past few days in the 99-102 range. He has had a fever of 104 before so I figured all would be well. At about 9PM last night as I was getting my post together for you he started screaming and crying. I rushed in the room to find him delusional and unable to answer my questions. He didn't know who he was or where he was. At first I thought he was kidding. When I sat him up in bed and asked him if he wanted water he said yes. As I walked down the hall he fell out of the bed and hit the floor hard. Needless to say the water went to the weigh side and I RAN! I continued talking to him and trying to calm him down but even his words were muttered and unclear. Trying to assume the best, I brought him out into the livingroom and sat with him talking thinking perhaps he was just sleepy and was trying to wake up. The poor guy just muttered and confused his mother. I really felt helpless. I called my DH who was working and he came home in a flash. I could hardly explain it on the phone before he arrived. After 10 minutes of talking to him he was finally able to say his name and tell us his age. I checked his temperature and it was 98. I literally sat there shaking wondering what on earth was wrong with my little guy. He kept complaining about a soar throat and neck so of course ALL things started going through my head. We contacted the health nurse line and were told to go directly to the hospital (30 minutes up the road). By the time we arrived there my lil' guy was showing some improved signs. We checked in and saw the on call doctor within 40 minutes of arriving. It turns out it was a viral infection and we were able to rule out the worst: meningitis and strep throat. The viral infection has caused some spikes in his fever which they figure resulted in delusion.
Besides the day he was born with a grade 2-3 hole in his heart, this was the scariest mommy moment with him; my daughter on the other hand keeps her mommy busy in this department (falling off of things, falling out of shopping carts, running into sharp objects...you know those grey hair moments).
Anyhow, I know I don't need to apologize for not posting my ATC cards (but I will..I am sorry)...I will do it...I just have to take photos of the remainder and I hope to upload later today or tonight. Thank you all again for visiting me on my blog! You are the best...and thanks also for listening to me. It means a lot!
It's just about 10AM my time and my boy is still sleeping...I am off to check on him again.
Because I love to stamp and you do too!

(((HUGS)))!
Alli - wow - that is so scary! Glad to hear he's doing better; he must be exhausted (and you too!) hang in there!
Beth (mommy to an almost-4 yr old)
That is a very frightening experience! Fevers can do scary things! As soon as you said sore head and neck little alarm bells went off in my brain and you did precisely the right thing....HOSPITAL! So relieved to hear that they could rule out the worst for you and that he will get over his viral infection and be back to normal. Parenting is definitely not for the faint at heart! So happy all is well.
Oh honey, that IS scary! :( I came home from Convention and the next day my 6 year old smashed his head open while dancing (don't ask) and the blood was just flying everywhere... so I *sooooo* understand about that ScaryMommyMoments. HUGS to you and your little pumpkin too!
Alli, my heart goes out to you and your little one! IF the symptoms linger or come back or he shows any other "strange" symptoms, please look into Lyme's disease. I am dealing with it right now and DRs usually don't recognize the symptoms. What you explained could very well be Lymes. Stay on top of it--if there are any new symptoms or recurrence of current ones--please check out canlyme.com or www.ilads.org. Very informative Lymes sites. BTW, most often, we are unaware of being bitten by ticks and have no telling 'rash'. Best to you!
Oh my Alli! I'm sorry that you all had to go through all that! Hope that he is on his way to a speedy recovery!! I hate fevers too. I panic when Chloe gets one as you just never know what can happen.
I can't imagine the terror you felt for your son. Glad to hear he's doing better. I hope you and the rest of the family are, too! He may recover faster than you will.
Poor little guy (not to mention, I'm sure mom aged a bit last night.) You know I have been an ER nurse for 16 years and have encounter all sorts of situations but when it comes to my own daughters all that experience just goes out the window! Hope you son is feeling better soon!
OMG- what a scare....glad to hear he is alright.
Hope your little guy feels better soon! Nothing worse than seeing your children hurt and not knowing how to help them!

Wow. This was the kind of experience that makes you just sit by their beds to watch them sleep sometimes... Glad your son is doing better.
Alli,
We've been there so understand how scarey it was for you. Thankful you and your baby are doing better. Prayers,
How scary for you, Alli! I'm so glad to hear he is doing a bit better!
Yikes! I can imagine that that was a scary few moment! So glad to hear that he's feeling better! I had an Aunt who would get delusional any time she had a high fever. I think some folks are prone to this type of reaction. Pray that he continues to recover quickly.
Oh no! That sounds super scary! I am glad you got him checked out and the bad stuff got ruled out!
I hope he is over his infection soon.
Big cyber hug!!!
