Spooky.

It sure is nice to take a break once in a while. I have had a few things going--nothing that I can't handle but enough to consume my time :)

Now I must say that Halloween is really not my thing. Up until this year the kids have dressed up and headed out the door--that is until this year. As many of you know my son was diagnosed with SPD (sensory processing disorder), in recent months he has been diagnosed with ADHD and anxiety disorder too. The long of the short is he has a difficult time with sugar and of course scary costumes and the night. Put it all together and Halloween in his nightmare. Okay...so I digress, today's card is geared towards Oct 31.

I adore your card and it's vintage feel. Won't you please mail it to me? (half-joking) On a more serious note, you impress the heck out of me with everything you do, your accomplishments and certainly your travails. I wish you a peaceful and quiet Halloween.

Hallowe'en was never really my thing either -- you are not alone there! I'm glad you have enough information now to be able to remove a source of stress from your son who is already dealing with so much.

I still love your fun Hallowe'en card, though! That crazy kitty has so much personality, and fits in perfectly with the fun backdrop you created! TFS!!!!

My son was diagnosed with SPD and ADD three years ago. His was mostly hearing and touch. With OT and meds he was able to get over his issues. Puting him on meds was not an easy choice. I prayed about it for months. I went to three doctors to figure out what to do. In the end I had to do what was best for my son. He was coming home from school every day crying that he was different and no one liked him. His confidence was so low. One of my doctors said if your son was having an issue seeing would you get him glasses? I said of course. She said this is the same thing. He is having problems focusing and paying attention because everything he was hearing was 10 times stronger for him than us. So, give him the meds that will help him deal with his issue. After I heard that I decided to try him on meds. Within a week of being on the meds he was enjoying school and had confidence. The doctors said the meds will help in cope with it. We started him on the lowest dose and he still is on that dose three years later. He is much bigger now and the meds do not help him as much but he has learned with the assistance of the meds to cope with it. Next year we plan on taking him of the medicine. That was our hope. The doctors said if we started him on meds now and never increased it he would learn how to cope with his disorders and the meds will help srong in the beginning but he would slowly grow out of the meds as he got older. OC was a big help as well. I worked with him at home every day. He is now an all A student and loves school. He is no different than any other child in his class. the hardest part about it was what everyone else was saying.Some of my friends talked about me and disagreed with me about the meds but they were not the ones seeing their son feel so low about himself every day.

The one thing I learned is you are the mother and you know what is best for your son. I always tell moms who are going through difficult times with their child to not listen to everyone else. You are your childs advocate and you need to fight for what he/she needs. Don't worry about what everyone else thinks. Do what is right for you and your family. I still have to make sure my son does not go to places with high noise or screaming. He can't handle it. But, that is OK with me. I get extra time with him. :)

Enjoy a nice evening in with your kids. I will pray for your son. Your an amazing mom!

I am so sorry about your son and I truly understand how the excitment of the holidays (especially Halloween) can cause great anxiety. My dd was diagnosed with bipolar disorder a while back and besides the mood changes and sleep disorder she is suffering from great anxiety as well. This has caused great stress for her as well as for us as a family but we try to make the best of it which some times can mean just celebrating quietly as a family. Even though this has been very taxing on us as a family we know we are blessed because although these are chronic condtions they are not life threatening. I will keep you and your family in my prayers during this holiday season and hope that God will give you all the strength you need to get through.

I really enjoy your blog and it is a wonderful distraction for me from the sometimes crazy world of reality. Keep up the great work and TFS.

Cute card, girlie, and you are such a good mama! You are figuring things out and making your little guy's world a safer, less scary place. A few years from now, we're going to look back on these days and breathe a big ol' sigh of relief that we somehow not only survived 'em but managed to thrive. I KNOW it! {{{{Alli!}}}}
