Glenda's 100th Challenge

I was thrilled to be asked to play alongside Glenda Wyatt and a group of talented stampers for Glenda's 100th Challenge!!  Glenda and I became friends after I attended one of her local stamping classes.  We meet every so often when we are visiting each other's "city"!  She is an amazing friend, stamper and teacher and I am very honoured to be sharing a card with you today.  As you know I have been occupied with my grandmother's care (alongside my mum) and as a result have not been paper crafting in the past few months.  My focus has been around health and wellness as we are helping grandma through this very rough time.  So thank you for your patience!

So in honour of Glenda's 100th Challenge she is sharing some SPECTACULAR blog candy as well as offering you a blog hop.

Update and a card!

Hello peeps!!  I am happy to report that after 9 days grandma was released from hospital yesterday.  She has a long road ahead for recovery but she is out of the hospital and is feeling better so I am ready to celebrate. Thank you so much for your e-mails and comments recently.  I know many of you have been supporting me through Facebook too.  THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.  You supported me and gave me strength to face each day.

We will be making some big changes in the family as grandma will not be driving for 6+ weeks and has plenty of appointments, OT visits, along with home care providers stopping by.  She is using a walker to move about and that also means we need to change the way her furniture is laid out and remove some of her furniture too.  Because she lives with us, we may also be changing our eating plans as she used to come upstairs to eat with us...so now we may be eating with her downstairs.  Mum has taken on the enormous duty to look after her this coming week.  Grandma requires 24/7 care, including changing her bandages (she has 59 staples in her leg right now), cooking, memory work, exercise/physio and driving her to and from appointments.  Her short term memory has been greatly affected and so I am asking that if you or a loved one has gone through this and has some methods or strategies they would like to suggest I would appreciate it.  She has been clinically referred to as suffering from delirium however there has been some talk of dementia.  Only time will tell.

On that note, I had a recent card appear in Card Creations: Favorite Occasions, Vol. 2.  If you haven't picked up this issue I highly recommend it!  The cards are spectacular.

One of my fav stamp sets is Dawn McVey's Signature Greetings from PTI! I love her fun combination personal handwriting and computer font.  If you didn't know I am a typography fan and fresh combos make me excited!  And I seriously love the sentiment "Girly You Rock!"

Take Three: Winter Day 5

Here we are...the final day of  Take Three: Winter previews!! Thank you again for your support and your comments.  It's been nice to be back for 5 days of posts.  I am sure you have been wondering where I have been...me too!!! LOL.  I will be absent from tonight's (Nov 14th) forum party as I am currently away on vacation with my family.  I wanted to send out a special shout out to my mum who has been looking after my home and dog for the past week too!!  After the family vacation I will be absent again as I will be attending a conference--I will be sure to tell you all about it too because I hear it is life changing.

My final card for the release is a special one.  I absolutely adore the muted look of flashy patterned paper behind vellum.  I created a card base and covered it with vellum paper.  I also stamped the snowflake images in different colours to match the paper/cardstock colours.  As a final touch I stamped the sentiment on top of the vellum and attached baker's twine too.  I clipped the bottom of the card to give you a better look at the card :)

Take Three: Winter Day 4

I love CAS cards...but you already know that about me.  I am always wowed by stamping white ink on kraft and black cardstock so I thought today I would showcase white on kraft!  I began by stamping the different snowflake images, then I coloured them after which I stamped the sentiments below the images.  I really love the sentiments used on this card.  I know I will be using them for a variety of upcoming projects.

CARD # 2

Using traditional holiday colours, I put together this holiday themed card.  I began by stamping the background, followed by the image and then I stamped the sentiment on the cream ribbon.
I distressed the edges and sponged them too.  I also added a hint of green ribbon along with a hint of green on the flourish.  You'll notice I outlined the inner flourish and added a scalloped edge at the bottom.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Create card base, layers and paper scraps. Distress and sponge.
   
2. Stamp background and image. Outline inner image using copic marker.
3. Stamp sentiment on ribbon.
4. Attach ribbons and adhere scalloped edge

Take Three: Winter Day 3

Hello everyone!!  How can this be day 3 already?  Time flies when you are having fun :)

As many of you will recognize I am sharing an image today you have seen before in my designs...one that you can mix and match with the snowflake from Holiday Sparkle, as well as the circle stamp from Daily Designs.  What I like most about this image is the feeling of movement...a falling snowflake!

I began today's card by stamping the background and sentiment and stamping the image on a separate piece of paper.  I placed the image on a piece of felt to give it height and establish it as the focal image.  The card is simple in design and easily reproducible.

2. Stamp image and cut out. Cut out square felt.

Take Three: Winter Day 2

Hey peeps!!!  So glad you dropped by for day 2 of the Take Three: Winter previews!  I have some exciting cards to share with you today.


CARD #1

I wanted to create a simple card with some WOW factor.  I was pleased with the focal image as it not only shines but it sparkles.  I love how the flourish image transcends the seasons and can be used for a number of types of cards.
I started by stamping the image first in white, then in black.  Then I placed versamark over the entire image and placed UTEE over top.  As it started to dry I sprinkled shimmer glitter over the top.  The effect in person is stunning and I am sure the photo does not do the image justice. Next I outlined the card base, stamped the sentiment, attached the ribbon and created a scalloped felt square to raise my focal image from the card.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Create card base and create outline using scor-pal.
2. Stamp image in white, then black.  Allow to dry.  Stamp versamark overtop.  
3. Pour UTEE over image, heat set and sprinkle glitter.
4. Cut out stamped image.  Cut out scalloped felt.
   
5. Attach ribbon trim.
   
6. Adhere focal image.

CARD # 2

I began with a card that could be winter themed but with these bright colours I was able to create warmth and excitement (check out that sentiment!!) and make it a card for all seasons.  I stamped all the flourish images in white ink and used some watercolour pencils to colour it in.  I love that "chalky look" and also love that there are so many elements I can colour in or leave blank.  The colour possibilities are endless.  I was able to tie in those colours with the cardstock and ribbon.

3. Round corners.
   
4. Attach ribbon.
5. Adhere remaining layers.

Introducing Take Three: Winter

I am thrilled to be back with the final installment of the take three 2010 series...Take Three: Winter.  When I first came up with the Take Three series I just loved the idea of creating a window into the life of an image.  I decided to alter the placement of the image to give a different look to each of the stamps and yet have the same theme going on.  The flourish was the very first image I came up with for this series so I am very excited to be finally using it with my project designs!  In addition, I am THRILLED to have an accompanying die to use with this series too.

Today's project just gives me that warm fuzzy feeling.  Perhaps it is the colour combination or the ribbon...or maybe it is the distressed edges...oh maybe it's the flourish! Whatever it is I can't wait to share it with you.

I began by creating a faux wash and I followed it by stamping the background using Dawn's fab Damask Design set.  I felt these images were a perfect mix for the flourish.  Next I distressed the edges, added piece of cardstock to the bottom, stamped the sentiment, attached the ribbon and adhered it to the card base and second layer.  Then I stamped the flourish, mounted it on a piece of cardstock and distressed the edges.  I also outlined the inner flourish with a Copic C-1 marker.  I adhered it using pop dots.

**faux wash: use a straight edge paint brush on your  ink pad, press into pad, and paint over cardstock to achieve desired look.  I did this with several colours including a caramel and white ink pad.

3. Attach ribbon trim.

Holiday Sparkle Day 5

Hello peeps!! It's already day five and we are now winding down sneak peeks for the full reveal.  I don't know what I like better...the peeks or the full reveal.  Or should I say...when the stamp set is finally in my hands so I can create with it too.  Thank you so much for joining me for this release.  I enjoy your company and your comments too.

Today's first project is a gift card holder created with felt, stitching and square nestabilities!!  Yes, it is that simple. Begin by creating 2 die cut squares, stitch your image (which I have coloured and also stamped a sentiment) to the top piece of the felt.  Then stitch the two pieces together.  Then thread buttons onto felt.  As a final step, apply rhinestones.

INSTRUCTIONS

GIFT CARD HOLDER

1. Create felt dies.
2. Stamp image, colour and stamp sentiment.
3. Stitch the image to the felt.  Then stitch the two felt squares together.
4. Stitch buttons to felt.

Holiday Sparkle Day 4

Hello friends!  Here we are on day four already.  One blink...two blinks and jump ahead here we are!  I am very excited to share some new cards with you today.  I am LOVING the bling and the pearls and while I illustrated this set I never imagined being able to use finally use all these fabulous things I have been hoarding on all my cards.  Watch out because I am ready to dazzle and pizzazz this holiday season.

My first card was create for that soft feminine person in your life.  We all have one.  The woman whose personality is warm and fuzzy.  I made sure to create a palette of warm colours and added some felt and ribbon to give my card some extra warmth.  Not only that I added some pearls and stitching for that cozy feeling.  Are you feeling it yet???

Holiday Sparkle Day 3

Welcome to day 3! We are at the half way mark and I am sure you are eagerly counting down to the 15th by now.  I just wanted to thank everyone of you who left me a comment. It's always nice to get happy mail.  As many of you know we just finished celebrating Thanksgiving in Canada so all that turkey and the turkey leftovers have really put my in the festive mood! 

My first project for today is a decorative mini box.  I love these pillow boxes because they are easy to make and they are a perfect place to store small gifts and treats.  You can find many different templates online or go HERE to print yours.

INSTRUCTIONS

Gift Pillow Box

1. Print outline on cardstock and use a stylus to create folds.
2. Cut layers and punch scallop edge.
3. Stamp image.  Apply rhinestones (colour using RV19) and stamp sentiment.
4. Attach ribbon and twine.  Attach threaded button.

Holiday Sparkle Day 2

Hello peeps!! I hope you are enjoying these previews.  If you didn't have a chance to see, Betsy and Nichole showcased Holiday Sparkle yesterday.  I always love seeing what others do with the stamp sets I create.  If you ever create something with one of my stamp sets PLEASE link me up.  I try my best to peruse the web but I certainly can't make it to every blog out there.

So here we are on day two and there is more sparkle in sight...  I have always been fond of reindeer so it was only a matter of time before I created one that could be used for my holiday cards.  The reindeer has no nose or eyes so you can add them by stamping circles, adding rhinestones or pearls or even drawing them.

Holiday Spirit Sentiments 5

Hi Friends!!! It's Day 5 already...where does the time go?  Is it me or does each release time go by faster?  Well today is a treat.  I have stamped many of the sentiments on the focal background of my card today. They just screamed to be used in this manner!!

Today's project is a fun project for everyone.  I started with a fresh colour combo and it became my inspiration for the entire project.  Last year my kids made these really neat stocking ornaments at our local museum last December where we learned about a pioneer Christmas.  We got to see all the toys and decorations that were made for the family in the late 1800s and early 1900s.  It was that experience that inspired me to create the felt gift certificate ornament...of course there weren't gift cards in the early days (maybe IOUs...) but I figured I would put a 2000s twist on it.

I wanted to show you that you can either have the GC showing or you can hide it...

INSTRUCTIONS

CARD

1. Create card base and layers. Create impression on card base.
2. Stamp sentiments with VersaMark and apply clear emboss.  Heat set.
3. Stamp sentiment on die cut tag.
4. Attach ribbon.
5. Attach snowflake die and threaded button.
6. Adhere all layers.

FELT GIFT CARD ORNAMENT

1. Cut ornament from cardstock.  Trace on felt using a marker.  Cut. Repeat. (see above photos)
2. Cut a slit in the center of one of the ornament cut outs.
   
3. Now that you have two ornaments in felt, place over top of each over and punch holes around the edges. (refer to photo above)
4. Attach buttons.
5. Stamp sentiment on ribbon.
6. Thread ornament with waxy thread (or thread of your choice).
7. Attach thread at the top of the ornament and tie a knot.

Holiday Spirit Sentiments 4

Hello everyone!!  Here we are on day 4 already.  It seems to me I was just typing the introductory post for Holiday Spirit Sentiments.  If I blink too many times it might turn into the October release overnight LOL.

Some years back I used to teach stamping classes to a group of women and whoever hosted the event received a gift from me.  I love to give tea lights because 1) I love candles 2) you can always use candles 3)  they were easy to decorate and 4)  I could always coordinate them with my thank you cards.  Several weeks before my release I often take a look at what supplies I have on hand and determine most of my projects.  I was digging through one of my drawers and I can across these tea light candles and bags and suddenly I remembered making these sweet hostess gifts.  If you are like me, the holiday season fills up with events and parties and I am often scrambling to put together a small gift as a token of my appreciation....and then I got thinking...this would make a perfect hostess gift for those throwing the holiday season events/parties!  It's small, inexpensive and says thank you too!  One of my favourite things about this ensemble is the sentiment I stamped on the edge of the tea light candle "warming up the season".  It couldn't be more perfect!

INSTRUCTIONS

CARD

1. Create card base and cardstock layers.
2. Stamp circle images on cardstock.  Stamp sentiment on mini piece of cardstock.
3. Layer all cardstock and adhere.  Apply sentiment in the corner.  Adhere pearls.
4. Attach snowflake with threaded button and bells.
5. Attach ribbon.

TEA LIGHT CANDLES and GIFT BAG

1. Cut paper strips for candles.  Stamp with sentiment.
   
2. Stamp cardstock and place in bag with candles.
3. Create bag topper and layers.  Stamp sentiment and emboss with scor-bug. 
4. Attach topper to bag.

Holiday Spirit Sentiments Day 3

The lead up to release time always seems to take forever from day 1 to day 5 of posts time flies!!!!  How are you all doing today?  Have you found something you know is a must have for this holiday season?  I know that along with my set I will certainly be adding some of the fabulous sets we have seen over the past few days from Nichole, Heather and Beth.  I am also LOVING the gorgeous previews we are seeing from the DT.

Today's project is quick and simple for those of you with younger children in the house...or if you are like me, for those people who live and love CAS! (clean and simple)

INSTRUCTIONS

CARD

1. Create card base.
2. Create embossed/raised edges (see THIS tutorial)
3. Stamp image and sentiment.
4. Colour image.
5. Attach ribbon.

PAPER ORNAMENT

1. Cut 6 strips of .5 inch patterned paper.
   
2. Make a ring and attach with a glue dot.  Repeat process to create a "ball".
3. Attach twine at the top.
4. Create embossed edges on cardstock and stamp sentiment.  Adhere to ornament surface.

Gobble Gobble Day 5

Hi peeps!!

Can you believe it’s day 5 already??

When I created Gobble Gobble I wanted to create a set full of opportunities.  I decided to create some stamps that could be used as backgrounds but that could also double as focal images.  On today’s card you will see the acorn and the string of “thankful” words.  This card is 3.5x3.5.  I like to create cards of all different sizes and shapes but thought this one in particular would be a nice card to place on the Thanksgiving table for each of my guests.  You could always personalize it by putting the guests name on the outside side of the card.  Instead, I plan to write a personal message telling my guests why I am thankful they are in my life J  Sometimes it’s just the little things that make a difference.

Today’s cards features a pallette of fall colours.  I just love the acorn from this set and wanted to highlight it as the focal image.  I cut out tags and stamped and coloured the image, added the sentiment and punched a hole at the top and addeda bow.  I also made one of the paper strips scalloped for an added accent.

INSTRUCTIONS

1.       Create card base and paper strips.
2.       Stamp image and sentiment.  Colour image.  Punch tags.
3.       Punch hole at the top of the tag and tie ribbon.
4.       Stamp “thankful” sentiment strip.
5.       Punch scallops and adhere remaining layers.
