Wise Owl (4)

When I started creating the images for this stamp set I didn't have a clue what I was going to call it. The name Wise Owl came about because I wanted to include some quotes--some food for thought. You'll notice I included one of the quotes in yesterday's post and Nichole included it in her post today. You'll find 3 quotes in total in this set.

Some Wise Owl tidbits:
--This is a $24 set with interchangeable owl bits and extras as well as sentiments (both whimsical, traditional and quotes) AND a mini set feauturing 12 owl bellies featuring for an additional $5.
--There are 2 permanent (no assembly required) mini owls (so you can make your own owls in the family!!)
--The 1/2 inch circle punch works coordinates to punch out the owl eyes (as outlined in Nichole's post today)
--There is one set of eyes that are joined as one stamp--no need to line them up!
--You can stamp the mini owls in a 1 3/4 circle punch punchie.
Stay tuned for more tidbits in tomorrow's post.

I just love making homemade gifts and as such decided to show you how owls have become popular in fashion. Today's post will outline the details to make jewlery pieces--although not limited to jewlery (zipper pulls, clips, bookmarks).

I have included a photo of the supplies I used for this project. You will also need to add your method of colouring (I chose Copic markers), as well as either let your project dry for 1 full day OR use an oven to heat set your paperclay.

I began by rolling/flattening the paperclay (which should be somewhat moist) to approximately 1/4 inch.

I stamped my owl in pigment ink (for rich colour and less bleeding)onto flattened paperclay and pushed to get an imprint of the image. Note: Lift stamp off carefully.

I used a cookie cutter for the cutout and a mechanical pen lid for the hole.

Either heat set your paperclay for 30 minutes at 250 or let dry overnight.

After my stamped image was heat set (btw...that is the stamped/indented branch from Out on a Limb) I coloured it with my copic markers. Then I used my sanding block to soften the edges.

I used glossy modpodge to seal my paperclay.

Then I decided to create a tin for my gift.

Here is a closer look at the inside of the tin.

Here is the final gift set.

Supplies

Stamps:
-Wise Owl (Urban Design) by PTI
-Out on a Limb by PTI

Ink:
Graphite Black Brillance by Tsukineko
-Whisper White by SU!
Espresso by Ranger

Cardstock
-Kraft by PTI
-Suede Brown by Prism

-3 dimensional flower glitter sticker (audrey) from {note}worthy collection by MM
-tin by PTI

Tools

-rolling pin
-sanding block

Creating gifts using paperclay is a lot of fun--it reminded me of my playdough days as a kid! The possibilities are endless.

Don't forget about the Wise Owl stamp set giveaway--remember to leave a comment each day to be entered.
