Garden of Life (1)

Is it time yet? *smiles* I hope to see you over in the PTI forum tonight!

I can hardly believe another countdown is coming to an end. Of course, it's not really the end at all. I can HARDLY wait to see what you create with this stamp set.

Today's feature is something for mum (aka mom). Mother's Day is around the corner, and if your mother is anything like mine, flowers will do the trick. Whenever mum comes to visit she likes to go through my cards and take some (I let her *grins*). Since she likes my cards so much, I thought I would make a sweet little stationary kit for her so that she has everything she needs on hand: a box to store her goodies, a paper clip, some cards, a beaded pen, a magnet, a few page bookmarks...

There are lots of photos today...so enjoy and please feel free to ask questions. No question is too silly, after all we have to learn somewhere. I am setting up the photos in categories to help you follow along.

******************************************************************************
Paper Clip

I began by stamping images and punching them out. Then I placed dimensionals over the back of one of the circles and pressed the paper clip firmly to attach it along with the second circle.

Here is the finished paper clip.

******************************************************************************
Beaded Pen

I began by stamping images on a label.

Then I rolled the label around the pen and trimmed where necessary.

Then I placed tape in vertical lines on the pen and avoided overlapping.

And finally I rolled the pen in the beads and pressed them firmly into the tape.

Here is the finished pen.

******************************************************************************
Page Keepers

I began by cutting a strip of paper 1"x4" and scoring at 2"

Next I rounded the corners.

Then I attached magnets using glue dots.

Here is the finished page keeper (coincidence this is Nichole's project in PC Magazine??? Nope *wink*)

******************************************************************************
Cards

These are simple one layer cards. I stamped the images, rounded the corners on some of the cards and made coordinating envelopes.

I created belly bands for each "pack" of cards. There is no proper measurement but keep in mind you want at least 4.25 between the two inside score lines. You'll see I have two score marks close together. That gives a nice fold to pack 4 cards and 4 envelopes.

******************************************************************************
Box Prep--Mum Window

I began by stamping the name "mum"...(that is how I spell mom!) You'll see from the photo that I have a purple mat (it is a foam pad), a stylus, ink and vellum cardstock.

I flipped over the "mum" and followed the letter lines with my stylus. That creates an embossed look.

Then I stamped the chrysanthemum and leaves (still on the back side).

I flipped it over to reveal the finished look. *This is not the one I used for my stationary box*

******************************************************************************
Decorating the Box

I began decorating this cigar box using acrylic paint to take away the "box" look. All I did was paint the edges.

I stamped a few pieces of white cardstock to create my patterned paper.

Then I applied this AWESOME scor-tape (a double sided sticky tape you can tear with your hands available through scor-pal) on all my edges and adhered the cardstock.

Here is my pretty 3-d chrysanthemum.

Here is my "mum" window.

Here is the finished box.

and all the goodies inside the box (the top "bloom where you are planted" item is a magnet)

Here is my mum's Mother's Day gift (a stationary collection) Hope you like it mum *wink* --I know she will be looking today!

My Mother is also a Mum, English and Canadian.
I love some of those simple projects for some Mother's Day Gifts I am planning for some of my special girlfriends that I thought I would like to recognize this year for all they do. They are great Mum's too and I think it is important to be recognized by your peers as much as your family for a job well done!
The page keepers are brilliant!

I am excited for the release and to so the whole set!
Great work.

This is so sweet. Great minds must think alike because I made a note card set for my mom and MIL too for Mother's Day. I entered it into this month's GSS contest so it'll be viewable...tomorrow, I suppose. I just love this project. I really like the page keepers...that's a great idea.

WOW! How thoughtful and fun this gift is to make or receive!!! Every item has such detail. How did you cut the window on the top of the box so very well? I am challenged by covering chipboard. I am not always satisfied if the cuts are not so straight. Thanks.

Alli, this is such a beautiful project! I was able to pick up several of these Cosmo Cricket boxes very cheap when a local scrapbooking store was going out of busines, so I'm very anxious to try something like this. I really love your Garden of Life set, and I so appreciate all of the wonderful samples you have provided for us. You are truly inspiring!

What a wonderful project, I love it all!

Two questions for you...
1) Where do you find the Scor Tape?
2) What type of adhesive did you use to attach the magnets? I have found them to be strong and rip from the paper with just the glue dots.

Thank you.
